Terms of Service

1. About Knowable

Knowable is a macOS application ("the App") and supporting web service ("the Service") that uses camera input and AI-generated coaching to help high school students practice across every subject in their textbooks. The Service is operated by Knowable and its founders ("we", "us", "our").

By downloading the App or using the Service (including this website), you agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority in your province or territory, you represent that a parent or legal guardian has reviewed and agreed to these Terms on your behalf. If you are using the Service on behalf of an educational institution, you represent that you have authority to bind that institution to these Terms.

3. Account registration

An account may be required to access certain features. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. You agree to notify us immediately at terms@knowable.ca if you suspect unauthorised access.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service to cheat during a graded exam, test, or assessment where AI assistance is prohibited by your institution.
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract model weights, prompts, or proprietary algorithms from the Service.
  • Automate or scrape the Service in any way that places unreasonable load on our infrastructure.
  • Submit false information, including fake email addresses, to any form.
  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable local, provincial, or federal law.
  • Attempt to circumvent usage limits or rate limits.

5. Subscriptions, free trials, and credit packs

Knowable is distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store. All payment, subscription, and refund handling is performed by Apple.

  • Subscription pricing. Knowable is available as an auto-renewing subscription priced at US$24.99 per month or US$249.99 per year. Local pricing may vary based on your App Store region. Each billing period includes 3,000 credits redeemable for AI tutoring sessions.
  • Free trial. New subscribers receive a 7-day free trial. The trial automatically converts to a paid subscription at the listed price unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends. Cancel any time in App Store → Settings → Subscriptions.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period at the then-current price unless cancelled. Your Apple ID will be charged within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
  • Consumable credit packs. One-time, non-subscription credit packs are available as in-app purchases: US$4.99 for 500 credits and US$24.99 for 3,000 credits. Credit packs are consumable but the credits themselves do not expire.
  • Refunds. All refund requests for App Store purchases are handled by Apple. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com to request a refund. Knowable does not directly issue refunds for App Store purchases.
  • Managing your subscription. You can view, change, or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings at any time. See our support page for step-by-step instructions.

5. Content ownership

Your content is yours. You retain full ownership of any notes, notebook pages, problem solutions, or other content you create while using the App. We do not claim any licence to your original work.

The AI-generated hints and coaching responses produced by the Service are provided for personal educational use. We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use them for that purpose. You may not resell, republish, or redistribute AI-generated coaching content at scale.

6. Apple platforms — additional terms

The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. To the extent that you download the App via the App Store, the following applies:

  • These Terms are between you and Knowable only, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
  • Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance, support, or warranty services for the App.
  • In the event of any third-party intellectual property claim related to the App, Apple is not responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement, or discharge of such claim.
  • Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms, and upon your acceptance, Apple will have the right to enforce these Terms against you as a third-party beneficiary.

7. No warranty

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that AI-generated hints will be mathematically correct.

AI coaching is a supplement to, not a replacement for, instruction from qualified teachers. Always verify important results independently.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Knowable and its founders shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim or (b) CAD $50.

9. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service at any time, with or without notice, if you breach these Terms or if we discontinue the Service. You may terminate your account at any time by contacting terms@knowable.ca. Upon termination, your right to use the Service ceases immediately.

10. Changes to the Service and Terms

We may modify the Service or these Terms at any time. Material changes to Terms will be communicated by email to registered users at least 14 days in advance. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Ontario, Canada.
